From 1987 to 1998 there was a film franchise that grossed $955,237,243 which starred our very own home grown Mel Gibson (Riggs). This massive film franchise which also starred Danny Glover (Murtaugh), Joe Pesci and a host of others became a mega hit so much so that it had a roller coaster named after it, and now has became a TV series.
Lethal Weapon the television series, stars funny man Damon Wayans as by the book Roger Murtaugh, Clayne Crawford as crazy but brilliant Martin Riggs and Jordana Brewster as Maureen Chaill the phycologist trying to understand the mystery that is Riggs. As a big fan, having grown up with the Lethal Weapon, I was skeptical about this latest release, somewhat concerned that the chemistry between Riggs and Murtaugh that worked so well in theatre, would be lost on the small screen, and if I am to be honest they pulled it off. The series follows the same storyline of the movies, and for those who haven’t seen the films the story sees Murtaugh as a veteran cop who after the stresses of the job over many years, is now trying to live a stress free and healthy lifestyle, staying out of as much trouble as possible, preferring to spend more time with his wife and children. Riggs is a ex special forces sniper that is now a cop and after loosing his wife and unborn child in a horrific accident now lives his life with no regard for his own safety, often waking up surrounded by a fuzzy memory and empty bottles. Now this new partnership will have Riggs learning that there are still reasons to live and Murtaugh understanding that sometimes you still need to take some risks in life no matter how old you are.
This TV series does the films justice and will have you hanging for more, week to week as you wait for the next episode to arrive. Every episode has been written such that it leaves you on the edge of you seat as it ends.
I give this show a 4/5 and think that the mix between comedy, action and drama will have you hooked in no time.
